How to Properly Test a High-Voltage Diode Before Replacement
Important: You cannot test a high-voltage diode using a standard digital multimeter (DMM) in regular "diode test" or "continuity" mode! Because it contains multiple internal diodes in series, its forward voltage drop is too high for a standard multimeter's low-voltage battery. The meter will show an "open circuit" (OL) in both directions, even if the diode is perfectly fine.
Signs of a Faulty Diode:
Shorted Diode (Short Circuit): the microwave emits a loud, deep humming sound when started, food remains cold, or the high-voltage/line fuse blows instantly. A multimeter will beep continuously (resistance will be close to 0 ohms).
Open Diode: the oven runs quietly and spins the tray normally, but does not heat.
